In February 2023, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy called Oasis, the iconic 90s and 2000s Britpop rock band, “Potentially, right now, still, the coolest band in the world.” One problem was that the band, led by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, had disbanded in 2009 because the brothers’ relationship had grown too toxic for them to continue on.
But now that seems to have changed as the Gallagher brothers have announced a new tour for 2025. And yes, the internet is full of memes that the notoriously bitter brothers will have another falling out that prevents the tour from ever happening, but let’s be hopeful and assume that if nothing else, the financial incentives of completing the tour will keep them together.
Oasis burst onto the scene in 1994 with their independent debut, Definitely Maybe, which included hits like Live Forever and Supersonic. The album debuted to rave reviews and quickly became a massive commercial success. And yet one year later, the band topped their own success by releasing one of the greatest albums of all time, What’s the Story Morning Glory? You know this one even if you don’t know you know it, because it gave us Wonderwall. But it also gave us Don’t Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, and Cast No Shadow. It’s basically wall-to-wall incredible songs.
Over the following 13 years, Oasis released five more albums and embarked on a number of tours, cementing themselves as one of the biggest acts in British music history. Now they set out to add to that legacy with a victory lap tour, and the world could not be more excited. The Ticketmaster pre-sale codes are in Taylor Swift levels of high demand, and the excitement is palpable.
Here’s to hoping the boys in potentially the coolest band in the world make it onto those stages to share their music with their devoted fans. Until then, all their music is sitting on every streaming service just waiting to be rediscovered or discovered for the first time.
