Earlier this year, Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago – one of the most prominent children’s hospitals in the country – was crippled for weeks from a cybersecurity attack on its systems. For weeks, doctors, nurses and administrators scrambled to manually write prescriptions, manage care and access patient records while hundreds of patients had to be transferred or rerouted to other hospitals. This is just one of the many ransomware attacks on healthcare systems that have happened over the last year, as these incidents reach record levels.
